A Few Special Projects

Helen has worked as Design and Project Architect on a number of great builds and renovations in Johannesburg and more recently in Cape Town.  Here's a sampler of her work for private clients as well as with Karen Wygers Architects (KWA).

An upstairs apartment just across the road from Kalk Bay’s quaint fishing harbour demanded a renovation that was bright and elegant with a classic, almost timeless, feel to resonate with the historic village atmosphere.

This family home was extensively renovated and extended, with a new roof and an entirely redesigned entrance. The needs of a growing family were accommodated with extra bedrooms & bathrooms, and living spaces.

The focus in the design was to open up the spaces and integrate, both visually and physically, the disparate parts of the house. The site has a very large, unusually shaped London Plain tree, that is now visible from almost all of the house.

A major renovation and addition of home office, to suit a growing young family. Detailing and final design (including joinery and bathrooms) by HCG, as well as heritage and council.

This project was run under the auspices of KWA architects, with Helen acting as project architect, running the job though all council approval processes, as well as technical documentation, in close liaison with the client and builder.

A new build, to suit a young family, done under Karen Wygers – all detailing and final design work (including all joinery and bathrooms) by HCG, as well as all heritage and council processes.

The main house was opened up internally, while the kitchen and casual living spaces were extended. The outdoor living areas were re-designed and more visually integrated, especially facing onto the very special drypack stone koppie.
